MGMT and New Country Songs

Veering from prog to psychedelic glam bizarre drug surrounded by folk, their second album Congratulations MGMT is without doubt one of the most unpredictable of the big-ticket album of recent years. The album seems not to their simple, synth-y hits such as "kids" respect and "Time to Pretend", rather than a tribute to the heroes and leaders such as Brian Eno unusual personality Institute schitzo-punk British television, Dan Treacy. It's a ballsy move. And - looking at things like their freakout Dada a video for "Flash Delirium" - often an inexplicable one.

We have recently named Brooklyn, Andrew and Ben Goldwasser in a hotel in Sydney, Australia, where she played a few concerts as part of  New Country Songs a world tour, which Eminem Songs they crossed the planet until the end of the year. Talk about their musical heroes - risk-takers, including Roxy Music, Neil Young - the couple looked truly in awe. Her love for the stranger stories led them to ex-Spaceman 3 User "Sonic Boom" Kember Pete Congratulations to co-produce, advertise and Jennifer Herrema Royal Trux, the voice - not just typical indie-blog-bait guest stars.

MGMT are at a crossroads vulnerable and important part of her creative life, and laughter during our brief interview, seemed to show a nervous excitement. After infiltrating the mainstream with their debut LP was a surprise success, Oracular Spectacular, these guys have to see how far he and flute solo, 12 minutes of songs and disgusting wormy images peppered in  New Country Songs along the way. If you have a little burps and "confused by turning Congratulations", you can Goldwasser and Brooklyn, to explain them a bit ":

Pitchfork: Congratulations true nature of the curator of the song checked with the name people like Brian Eno and Dan Treacy and the fact that Sonic Boom recruited to produce it. You guys were walking your way to the children who turn really loved "kids" these styles  ti albums and obscure artists?

HS: We like the idea, a bit 'division, without a kind of  New Country Songs philosophical approach to music, and maybe we can get some people to convert our vision of the world [laughs] We did not try to be pretentious about. "Who is Dan Treacy." as: ". This is the music, we should hear the" But we certainly would not mind if people like and then heard some songs Television Personalities And this album is very much a musician - of Dan Treacy to Lady Gaga - and the strangeness of a musical career.

Ben Goldwasser of the psych-pop outfit MGMT was kind, her thoughts and stories to bring the spirit to a great DIY how they got there, the best of friends with  Of  Eminem Songs Montreal and played shows are covered in butter. part

An interview with Ben Goldwasser of  MGMT

YANP: I saw you on the  ti albums Bonnaroo lineup recorded.

Ben: Yes, it does exactly. We just found a  ti albums way. We knew there was a possibility, but yes, it's awesome. We are very excited.

I was pleasantly surprised. Do you like playing outdoor festivals?

He had never done one. Previously, we had to walk a lot though. We used to be so much more .. Hippie music and used to gomuch more resistant. It 'nice to come back Eminem Songs and get that one game.

So, when I prepared for this interview, I found an old   ti albums recording MGMT. It was all his doing Nine Inch Nails "Closer" live in somecolleges.

Oh yeah!

MP3: MGMT - Closer New Country Songs (Nine Inch Nails)

Does this sound familiar?

It 'a strange kind of recording, because we made the music on a laptop and then the music from a computer and sung live with him. Then we overdubbed voice to more then Eminem Songs . So it's very strange sound recordings. It 'was quite impressive. This is probably my favorite recordings of our really old.

What are some of the differences between how you approach live performances, and how do you do now?

MGMT and Eminem Songs

COLE RACHEL: I know you do the festival circuit in Europe now. You feel like ti albums you were on the Eminem Songs road forever?

Ben Goldwasser: Yes. We have not even had much of Eminem Songs a break. It was pretty crazy, but it was all really good.

TCR: How does it feel to be blown into the air? I'm seeing and hearing at  New Country Songs this time.

BG: It's pretty weird. Every time we come back to town after we know played there for a while, "we are a bigger club. We did not  ti albums actually sit down to a ton of popular culture or news. Not really, how many people to us or speak to any other band. we have to do iskind of what we do.

TCR: Are you surprised how Oracular Spectacular is turned off?

BG: Really surprised. We were not really trying to write hits or recognition from Eminem Songs other people. We did it mainly to ourselves, just for fun. To have considered not  only as ti albums an indie album, but as a pop album is truly amazing.

Live shots by Justine Trickett

New York’s pysch-indie youngsters MGMT are being hotly-tipped for 2008, and it’s no surprise as their debut album Oracular Spectacularproduced by the helping hand of David Fridmann should stop you in your tracks.
They kindly flew into the Crossfire office on a magic carpet fuelled by last night’s booze and had a chat with Zac about dogs and smelly fruit.
Welcome to London fellas…
Hello!
So, we have two members of the band here, Andrew VanWyngarden who sings, plays guitar and writes songs and we also have songwriter Ben Goldwasser who also plays the keyboards, pretty gnarly too…
[Ben] Hey…
So, virgins to London, you’ve just got off of a plane, spill the beans….
[Andrew] We had a great first day. We got scammed trying to buy hash and then we went out in Notting Hill and went to Tesco Disco, which is a small carpeted room underneath the Tesco supermarket. They had free spicy cheese doodles and that was a lot of fun. Last night we played a show at The Social which was pretty cool.
And that was your first ever gig in the UK?
Yeah, our first ever gig…
So, did you enjoy it Ben?
[Ben] Yeah, a lot more people knew about us, more than we expected, which was nice. It was nice that people were there to see us. The sound turned out pretty good considering the place was pretty small. We spent a long time trying to figure out how to get all of our stuff on the stage.
You managed to fit it all thought didn’t you?
Yeah, we managed; we have a massive keyboard though.

Are you aspiring to take over the stage with your keyboard collection?
[Ben] Yeah, I want to take up at least half the stage. When we start playing bigger stages then I will think of more things to take up space. Maybe I could play a couple of notes on each one during the whole show?
[Andrew] Yeah, that’s a good idea
Can you ever imagine yourself like KISS being zoomed out into the audience with your keyboard?
[Ben] That would be great. What about being like David Lee Roth on a surfboard out into the crowd?
That would be sick
[Andrew] It’s like the ultimate goal of any musician
[Ben] A hover craft would be pretty cool…
Any more wishes?
[Andrew] Yeah, we want to play a show exclusively for dogs at some point. We aren’t a joke band, but we think it would be really amazing if there was a stadium full of dogs…

I am sure Battersea Dogs Home could hook you up next time you come in. There are a lot of dogs in there. It’s like jail; they don’t get much entertainment stuck behind those bars, so they might be pretty stoked if the yanks turn up with a full band, 40 keyboards and a bag of Baker’s…
[Ben] Dogs love Baker’s!
Do they love Baker’s in America as well?!
Oh yeah!
My dog loves Baker’s, but anyway, let’s talk about how you put the band together. Obviously you two are the main members, would you say that’s correct?
[Andrew] Yeah, I mean, we are the founding members and songwriters
[Ben] CEO of MGMT incorporated
How did it all come together, what is your musical background and where are you guys from?
[Ben] Well, I’m from upstate New York, about 5 hours from New York City. I didn’t go down to the city that much growing up although we live there now. Andrew is from Memphis, home of the blues
[Andrew] Birth place of rock and roll as well….
[Ben] And we met at University in 2001, started the band in December 2002 and started writing songs in my dorm room on a laptop. We would sit and make up these weird little electronic loops, play them live and do silly things over the noise. We didn’t sing at that point. Then at some point we decided to start writing pop songs, kind of as a joke, so the whole thing wasn’t that serious to start off, it’s still not
[Andrew] They weren’t joke songs necessarily…

MGMT - Congratulations

MGMT interview

T. COLE RACHEL
MARK SEGAL
I WAS IN BROOKLYN, WANTING TO DO MUSIC STUFF AND HE WASN'T REALLY INTO IT. I REMEMBER HIM SAYING HE WANTED TO DO SOME SORT OF SOCIAL WORK, SOMETHING NOBLE FOR A GOOD CAUSE. I WAS LIKE, ‘C'MON, MAN! WHERE'S YOUR SELFISH AMBITION?
—ANDREW VANWYNGARDEN, MGMT
BECAUSE WE HAVE A SONG ABOUT COCAINE AND HEROIN, I GUESS PEOPLE ASSUME WE’RE BIG DRUGGIES OR SOMETHING. IT’S KIND OF WEIRD, BECAUSE THE WHOLE SONG WAS MEANT TO BE TAKEN AS A JOKE.
